Mission Impossible? Accept My Family Just the Way They Are

Introducing, an excellent WordPress blogger and a friend of mine, Tonya May Avent. You can find Tonya at her blog, Destined 4 the Dub.

Destined 4 the Dub

I recently read an article about couples, and one of the men that was interviewed stated the thing he loved most about his significant other was that she didn’t try to change him.

WHAT? I paused after reading this. There was nothing about this man that she wanted to change? Wow, must be nice…

After thinking about it for a while, I already knew I had mistakenly spent a long time trying to mold my daughters into the perfect children that I wanted them to be. This enlightenment came after Kennedi hurt her knee, and I wrote a story about how it changed me for Guideposts magazine.

As I was working through the story with my editor, the deep and probing questions he asked me opened my eyes to how what I thought was helping them, was really hurting, and hindering them. I’ve been working hard to seek God and…

Happy New Year!

2020 was a difficult year for everyone. May the new year bring blessings to us all!

How can we expect blessings after a year of turmoil? In Isaiah 41:10, God tells us, “Fear thou not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…”

Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all thy need according to his riches in Christ Jesus.

3 John 1:2: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

You see, if you are a child of God, God wants for you to be blessed! He blesses us when we try to live as Christ did. No one can lead a perfect life, and Christ did that for us. We should all pray that God will bless and prosper all of us.

James 4:2b: Ye have not, because ye ask not.

Why: Things I Want Your Heart To Know

Now, 10 years later, I am surprised to be alive. Not only that, but I am thriving. I have three children. All of them are in their 20’s and though I have had a tracheostomy, and I can’t move anything except my head, they have settled into “this is our life now.” They know what I can and can’t do, and we live our lives accordingly.

So, why do I call my site “Things I Want Your Heart To Know?” Because my three darlings need to know what is in my heart; and I wish for them to carry my love for them in their own.
